Broadcasting a Movement: Miguel Gutierrez’s freedom of information 2008
This year is ending on a somber note for many of us in the U.S. and around the world. Choreographer Miguel Gutierrez has organized an event that rides on this zeitgeist with freedom of information 2008 an endurance improv ritual in response to the continuing U.S. led wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that will be performed over a 24 hour period across the country and streamed online via Ustream.tv. Two NYC Choreographers Making Innovative Use of the Web
This week I was struck by two interesting initiatives for web audiences by NYC dance artists. First, on Sunday December 14th at 8pm EST, Misnomer Dance Theater will have a live webcast of the final NYC performance of their premiere piece, Being Together choreographed by Chris Elam. Second, Yanira Castro is making a new duet for private performances in your bathroom, and it is being choreographed, in part, on Twitter. Continue reading

Opportunity for Dance & Technology Artists
Sabine Klaus (aka Creation Editor) is starting a video documentary program focusing on dance technology in collaboration with Dance-Tech.net and Tendu.tv. New Dance Films Now Playing in German Cinemas
Joint Adventures, a German dance and theatre production company has launched an ambitious project called Choreographic Captures to distribute short dance films to German movie houses. To start out, they had an international competition for one minute films. The five winners were just announced and will be played in dozens of cinemas this fall during the ads and movie previews that proceed the feature films. Continue reading
